In my backyard there has been a drama playing out. Well, actually it’s in the arroyo behind my backyard. I’ve been watching a pair of hawks raise their young. About two weeks ago, mom and dad just kicked them right out! There’s been all sorts of whining and carrying on. They really didn’t want to leave! Things have quieted down the last few days so I guess the younguns’ accepted that they must move on. I tried to get pictures of them but since they are hidden among the trees and they move really fast, I only got a few when they were too young to leave the nest. I’m pretty sure they are a coopers hawk. I hope you enjoy the pics!
This is my favorite shot!
There were three babies in the nest and all three made it into adulthood. It was pretty cool to watch, since these guys are a protected bird. It was nice to see them thrive and move on to raise a family of their own. It was also funny to see my molly argue with the parents of these babies. Mom and dad liked to swoop over her head when she was running around in the backyard and she would yell back at them!
